Jazz at the Coolest Dive Bar in New York City

If you love jazz or an inexpensive drink, you’ll definitely want to check out 55 BAR. This hole-in-the-wall Greenwich Village bar is a throw-back to the Prohibition Era. (In fact, it was once a speakeasy.) Featuring incredible music seven nights a week, the owner of 55 BAR delights in promoting up-and-coming artists. Fantastically talented musicians rock the house, playing everything from instrumental jazz to flamenco to the blues. The vocal artists are amazing too. The décor is modest – news clippings and album covers decorate the walls – but the atmosphere is cozy and intimate. While 55 BAR doesn’t serve food, you can bring your own. Best of all, the drinks are cheap, and the wait staff is friendly. Entry is usually free earlier in the evening, but there’s a small fee later on. So pop in early and grab a good seat at this funky dive bar, a hidden New York City gem. You’ll likely find yourself rubbing elbows with in-the-know locals and lots of music-loving guests of New York City boutique hotels. Afterwards, head back to The Mave for a late-night cup at Birch Coffee.

Address: Located in the basement of 55 Christopher Street in Greenwich Village
